National Catholic Schools Week

January 25, 2021

Catholic schools throughout the Diocese of El Paso will celebrate the 47th Annual Catholic Schools Week from January 31 to February 6. This year's theme is "Catholic Schools: Communities of Faith, Knowledge and Service."

The 10 counties that comprise the Diocese of El Paso include over 2,500 students and over 80 educators on nine Catholic School Campuses.

“Catholic Schools Week is a time to reflect and celebrate the 400-year-plus gift our schools have been to our nation.  Our schools have been the bedrock of much of the intellectual life of our country.  Centered on the person and life of Jesus Christ, Catholic schools are assessable, participatory in the evangelical and Sacramental life of the Church, distinguished by a tradition of academic excellence, committed to educating the whole child, and steeped in a Catholic worldview and intellectual tradition.  They are rooted in community and evangelical witness. Graduates of Catholic Schools are more likely to be active in their faith and nurture religious and lay vocations in the Church. While we have been hit hard by the pandemic’s challenge, we hold fast to our evangelical mission to educate and bring Christ to the world.” — Dr. Lanny Hollis, Superintendent of Catholic Schools

Join Bishop Mark Seitz and students from our Catholic Schools for Sunday Masses on January 31 and February 7 at 11am on Channel 7.2 and on the Diocese of El Paso Facebook page.

Catholic Schools Week was established in 1974. It is sponsored jointly by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops and the National Catholic Educational Association. Schools typically observe the annual celebration week with Masses, open houses and other activities for students, families, parishioners and community members. Through these events, schools focus on the value Catholic education provides to young people and its contributions to our church, our communities and our nation.
