St. Matthew Catholic School Class of 2017 & 2018 Come Together to Raise $4,600 for Scholarships

October 18, 2016

7th & 8th grade students who attend St. Matthew Catholic School were challenged by the Foundation for the Diocese of El Paso to raise at least $1,000 per class over the summer for the school's endowed fund, managed by the Foundation.

The Class of 2018 raised $1,600 and the Class of 2017 raised $2,000. The Foundation matched the gifts with $1,000. 7th grader Aidan Rascon raised $600 all by himself through lemonade sales and yard work.

The endowment fund is a permanent fund for the school that provides needed scholarships and financial aid annually to students attending St. Matthew Catholic School. This is the 2nd year of the "Challenge" tradition at St. Matthew.

The Foundation currently manages 81 separate endowment funds for diocesan charities, ministries, parishes, and schools. Of these, 23 funds are designated for Catholic schools with a combined value of $6.6 million; each one of El Paso’s schools has at least one endowed fund for scholarships. Every spring, the Foundation distributes 4% of the fund’s value to schools.

Congratulations to our students for their act of stewardship.
